NEW PUBLIC ART COMMISSION - 545 Queen Street, Brisbane

February 2008, i have been commissioned to design the public art for the foyer of the newly redeveloped office building situated on 545 Queen Street, Brisbane. The building is positioned in the gateway between the Fortitude Valley and the Brisbane City.

My concept is to create 3-4 large pod forms inspired by the Moreton Bay fig trees on the West and the Brisbane River on the east of building. I wanted to design a stylized organic form that reflects the environment in which it is situated. The shadow is the key design feature of this sculpture. They will be fabricated in either copper or brass with an organic looking patina.

Image to the right is the concept proposed and has been approved and I am now commencing the Design Development stage. I am anticipating this sculpture to be complete early 2009.

A HUGE thankyou to the team at UAP: especially Matt Tobin, Belinda Smith, Rachel See.
