RED ISLAND - Singapore Fashion Week 2008 | |
The stunning work of seven Tasmanian jewellers will be showcased at Asia's premier fashion festival in Singapore this week (March 28-April 6).The highly-prized exhibition invitation follows the success of Singular & Multiple: New jewellery from Tasmania, the arts@work project exhibited in Singapore late last year. The Minister for Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts, Michelle O’Byrne, said 462 carefully-selected pieces have been shipped to Singapore under the brand Red Island. The jewellery will be scrutinised by a wide range of fashion industry buyers as well as being available for sale. "arts@work has worked in collaboration with the Curiocity Gallery in Singapore to ensure that the works extend the contemporary jewellery range on offer in Singapore," Ms O’Byrne said. "The really exciting thing about going back for the Singapore Fashion Festival is that the jewellers have been able to really tailor their work to the Asian market." Ms O’Byrne said the Curiocity Gallery, which hosted the Singular & Multiple exhibition last year, was instrumental in securing the return invitation to Tasmanian jewellers to Singapore. "While there will be plenty of competition from international and regional designers highlighting their collections, interest is expected to be high in the specially-tailored Tasmanian pieces," she said. The work of Di Allison, Karin Beaumont, Carmen Blyth, Natalie Holtsbaum, Jeanette James, Marisa Molin and Sandy Wrightson will be featured at two separate festival events from March 28 to April 6:
